This portfolio of engagements presents examples of efforts led by Charles E. Caldwell working with hundreds of specialist since the mid-80s. Summary

1994 – 1996 Focus centered on development and integration of computer and telecommunications technologies working with DSPs, Java and multilayer architectures on Windows-based PC platforms.

1996 – 1999 Work efforts focused on conducting activity-based research on knowledge workers and on the development of strategic technologies with a particular focus on digital asset management systems.

1999 – 2002 Research and development efforts during this period focused on the creation of NextQuarter’s knowledgebase and developing solution capabilities (Solution Optimization Systems) and tools (ROI Calculators) that leverage activity-based research of knowledge workers and how they are impacted by strategic technologies.

Aug 1990 The New PC Development Process at NEC (IBM) – In order to engineer a major step-change in a Fortune 50 company, benchmarking information was needed to facilitate this change. We looked at the Organization, Resources and Decision-Making Process of a competitor to achieve this objective.

Sept 1990 Status of High Density Battery Technology (Kodak) – Battery technology is critical to the market for portable devices. Our effort focused on looking at developments in the U.S., Europe and the Pacific Rim.

Dec 1990 Color Thermal Dye Diffusion Printer Market (Polaroid) – The market for this type of printer was growing rapidly in the Pacific Rim. We looked at how the market was segmented in Japan, applications for the printers and at competitive offerings that could be introduced into the US market.

May 1991 The New Notebook PC Development Process at Toshiba (IBM) – Toshiba has always been at the forefront of the notebook market with new technology. Our mission was to look at R&D practices and the process of commercializing cutting edge technologies.

July 1991 Japan’s Digital Cellular Telecommunications Infrastructure (Bellsouth) – In order to access differences between the US’s and Japanese Cellular markets, we analyzed Japan’s Roadmap (to the year 2010) for rolling out telecommunications capabilities to determine strategic implications for the US market.

Sept 1991 Income & Earnings History: Toshiba, Seiko Epson, Sony, & NEC (IBM) – As part of a re-engineering effort, we looked at the worldwide numbers of the aforementioned companies in Europe, Southeast Asia, Europe and the US in order to benchmark the performance against our clients operations.

Oct 1991 Development and Manufacturing Cost of NEC’s Multi-Sync Monitors (IBM) – Our objective was to help our client analyze the cost structure of their monitor business. The effort involved benchmarking best practices to find new means for leveraging suppliers, lowering the cost of components and reducing manufacturing expenditures.

Nov 1991 Japanese Market for Patient Monitoring Systems (Hewlett Packard) – In anticipation of launching a new product offering in Japan, our mission was to look at competitive offerings and market demands to determine how best to capture market share in the Pacific Rim.

Dec 1991 3M Italia’s 35mm Film Business (Kodak) – As part of a due diligence exercise for an acquisition, we looked at the organization, strategy & development philosophy of a US companies operation in Italy.
